Phasmophobia thermometer – what do frigid temperatures mean?

A thermometer is a useful tool in Phasmophobia that helps you quickly locate the ghost’s room. You can also use it to check if the ghost has freezing temperatures as evidence. In this tutorial, we cover the principle of the thermometer in the game and how to check for frigid temperatures in the investigation area.

Phasmophobia thermometer – how does it work?

The thermometer in Phasmophobia is a device that comes as an accessory, so you have to go to the store to use it. The purchase of one unit costs $30. However, it is an expense that is worth it because the freezing temperature is one of the evidences that helps in identifying the ghost.

To use the thermometer, simply take the device in your hand and activate the right mouse button. The display should light up green and the screen should show the temperature, which updates every 2 seconds. By default the thermometer shows the temperature in Celsius, but you can change this in the settings to degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature is measured by a projected ray in the direction the player’s gaze is pointing. The thermometer in Phasmophobia indicates a value that can vary between -2/+4 degrees from the actual temperature.

Temperature reading in Phasmophobia

For the temperature reading to be correct, the map plugs must be on to warm the rooms. A reading of 5 degrees Celsius in cloudless weather or less than 2 degrees Celsius in other types of weather may indicate the presence of a ghost in a room. When using the thermometer in Phasmophobia, it is a good idea to examine each room for at least 3-5 seconds while pointing the device at the ground to be sure of a correct reading. There is also a known problem with reading temperatures with a thermometer that has been dropped on the ground by one player and picked up by another. In this case it is a good idea to turn the device off and on again before using it.

Frigid temperatures in Phasmophobia

Freezing temperatures in Phasmophobia are one piece of evidence that can occur during an assignment. The easiest way to verify it is with a thermometer. If the device indicates a minus temperature, this is confirmation that the ghost has freezing temperatures as evidence. The second way to verify evidence is the visible steam from the mouths of players who are in the ghost’s room.

Note that every ghost in Phasmophobia lowers the temperature of the room they are in. However, for some phenomena, the temperature is around 5 degrees Celsius in cloudless weather and 2 degrees Celsius in other types of weather. The reading on the thermometer can vary by 2 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the lowest reading for frost-free spirit as evidence is 0 degrees Celsius.

If frigid temperatures are present, the thermometer should show a value at around -10 degrees Celsius. However, a reading below 0 degrees Celsius can already be considered confirmation of the presence of a frigid temperature phantom. A lowered temperature can also be confirmed by the visible breathing of players who are in the ghost room.

The temperature only decreases when the ghost is in a room, but there is a possibility that the ghost will move all over the map. In that case, a lower temperature may not necessarily indicate that the ghost room has been found. Additionally, room temperatures do not return to normal immediately after the ghost leaves. This means that the low temperature reading may appear in multiple rooms at the same time. So players should be vigilant when determining a ghost room based on this indicator alone.

I'm a fan of many games from very different genres - from simulations to platformers to shooters. I've definitely spent the most time in sims creating generation after generation (especially in The Sims 2) and in Minecraft building lots of buildings and exploring the world.
